How to Pack a Carryon for a Weekend Trip

Never have I ever traveled with just a carryon.  Oh, but I took the challenge for my weekend in Waco, Texas.  Checking luggage is hard to avoid if you like to pack everything under the sun like me, but with a quick trip, opting for only a carryon makes more sense.  Here’s what I packed in my carryon for my weekend in the deep South:

  • undies & such
  • gingham button-down tie top (thrifted Ralph Lauren)
  • jean skirt ($23 | Target)
  • bronze ankle boots ($100 | Lucky Brand)
  • jumpsuit ($30 | Target)
  • tee & athletic shorts for pjs
  • 1 pair socks
  • monogrammed bar necklace ($40 | Marleylilly)

  • toiletries bag
  • shampoo
  • conditioner
  • body wash
  • mini loofa
  • facial cleanser
  • contacts & solution
  • glasses
Bando I'm Outta Here Passport Cover Travel

  • sunglasses
  • Nikon camera + memory card
  • earbuds
  • chargers for phone & camera
  • Marie Claire
  • Spotify Premium

For the Journey

I opted for a casual yet cute dress, pearl studs, black Arizona Birkenstocks and my BCBG bag.  Slipping my shoes off for security was no big deal, and while I was somewhat dressed up (aka not in yoga pants), I was still quite comfortable and felt confident.

The Bottom Line

Your destination may mean different climate and activities than mine, but at the end of the day, here’s what matters.  No more than two pairs of shoes.  Choose jewelry and accessories than can match each of your outfits well.  As my mother always says, you can always borrow or buy it if you forget it.  But it’s a good idea to not forget undies and contacts…

Life is about living large, but live large with experiences, not a hunk of weight you roll around.

My, do I feel accomplished!  I didn’t even have to use the expanding feature of my carryon suitcase!  I didn’t know it was possible to fit everything I need into a bag that small.  If I can do it, you can do it too, babe!

Hello Kristin. I struggle to travel with just a carryon. But, when i travel anywhere with my boyfriend, he hates waiting at the destination for the luggage…so i have kind of been forced to travel lighter!! Like you, I try to pack parts of outfits that can be interchangeable. My main struggle is my toiletries…I’ve realized that i used a lot of products everyday, including moisturizer, eye cream, perfume etc – I know I can live without them…but I’d rather not 😉 I guess it will take more time for me to travel lighter! Hope you had a good trip! Carly
